Level 3.1 supports two different goals. Holding Ground is the ordinary survival badge. Specialist adds two restrictions: survive using only one kind of tower and use no abilities. The official descriptions do not name the map route, wave count, enemy values, or a best tower type, so build your plan from the current level rather than a copied loadout.
Earn Holding Ground first if Level 3.1 is new to you. That pass reveals the route and pressure points without forcing the Specialist restrictions. Then repeat with a tower type chosen for the conditions you actually observed.
Separate the two Level 3.1 objectives
Holding Ground asks only for survival. Use the full set of tools the live level allows, learn where enemies approach, and correct your aim throughout the fight. This is the appropriate objective for scouting.
Specialist is a separate rules run. You may use only one kind of tower and no abilities. Multiple copies may fit the plain meaning of “one kind,” but the current objective panel is the final authority if it uses stricter wording. Do not place a second tower type and sell it later; keep the run clean from the first placement.
Holding Ground
Survive Level 3.1 using the legal tools available in the ordinary run.
Specialist tower rule
Commit to one tower kind and do not place any other kind.
Specialist ability rule
Use no abilities at any point during the attempt.
Unpublished details
Exact waves, values, and ideal placements need observation in the live build.
Scout for Holding Ground
On an ordinary attempt, trace the route from entrance to outpost before committing the entire budget. Look for long firing lanes, bends where enemies remain in range, split paths, and high ground that a gun tower can actually use. The developer states that high ground grants guns more range and damage, but does not publish an exact bonus in the experience description.
Place a small test defense, set its aim point on the active path, and watch the direction of real shots. Manual aiming means a tower with a poor aim point can appear weaker than it is. Adjust the aim before purchasing a different defense.
Use heroes and abilities during this learning clear as the current objective permits. Note which threat forced each response. When the run ends, you should know where the first serious leak occurred, which enemy property caused trouble, and which tower kind covered the broadest set of observed needs.
Choose one tower kind for Specialist
Choose from towers your account currently owns. A valid choice must interact with the enemies and terrain seen in your scouting pass. Do not select a tower solely because a video calls it the best; updates, upgrade state, and route geometry can change the result.
Evaluate the candidates with four questions:
- Can this kind reach the relevant route from legal build tiles?
- Can its aim be adjusted quickly when the leading threat changes?
- Can multiple copies cover early pressure and later density without another tower kind?
- Did the scouting pass reveal an enemy property that this choice cannot address?
If the fourth answer is yes, test a different kind in a normal run before spending another restricted attempt. The official badge does not promise that every tower kind can complete Specialist at every progression state.
Execute the Specialist run
Before starting, remove ability use from your mental plan. Do not trigger an ability to recover from a leak. If the interface lets you change bindings, make accidental activation less likely; otherwise keep the ability area away from routine clicks.
Build only the selected tower kind. Copies of that same kind should have distinct jobs: early coverage, a long central lane, or protection near the outpost. Aim each copy for its job instead of pointing all of them at the same location. Recheck aim after upgrades or when the route changes pressure.
Spend resources in response to evidence. Add coverage when enemies move through an uncovered segment; improve an existing defense when its lane is correct but its output falls short. Avoid guessing a fixed upgrade order because no verified first-party table supports one here.
Hero rules are not described in the public Specialist badge text. Follow the current objective panel. If it is silent and badge eligibility matters more than speed, make a controlled run and record whether the hero acted autonomously or under direct control.
Recover without breaking the rules
When a leak begins, resist the two fastest invalidating reactions: selecting another tower kind or pressing an ability. First redirect existing towers toward the dangerous group. Then reposition the hero if the live rule permits it. Add another copy of the same tower kind only if placement and resources make sense.
If survival becomes impossible, let the run produce useful evidence. Record the wave or visible threat, the uncovered route segment, and the last purchase. On the next attempt, change one factor—initial placement, aim point, copy timing, or selected tower kind—so the comparison teaches you something.
Verify the result
After the level, wait for the Holding Ground or Specialist notification and check the account badge list if needed. A survival result and a badge result are different checks: you can clear the level while violating a restriction.
If Specialist does not unlock, review every placed tower’s kind, any accidental ability input, reconnects, and the exact level/mode selected. Do not declare a hidden requirement from one failed attempt. Repeat with fewer uncertain variables and label community observations by date.
Level 3.1 FAQ
What unlocks Holding Ground?
Survive Level 3.1.
What unlocks Specialist?
Survive Level 3.1 using only one kind of tower and no abilities.
Can I place several copies of the same tower kind?
That matches the ordinary reading of “one kind,” but check the live objective panel for any more specific restriction.
Which tower kind is guaranteed to work?
No guaranteed choice is stated by the official badge. Test candidates against the current route and your current upgrades.
